Overview

Pausing puts a job on hold. Tenzo stops new outreach for that job, but the job, its script, and its candidates all stay exactly as they are. Phone screens the candidate has already scheduled still happen at the agreed time. Booked video interviews still depend on Allow interviews. When you resume, outreach picks back up. A job has two statuses: Active and Paused.
Pausing a job is not the same as pausing a candidate. The Pause Calls action in the Interview Results Table (and in the row actions menu) pauses outreach for one candidate, or for the candidates you selected, and leaves the rest of the job running. Pausing the job stops new outreach for everyone on it — already-scheduled phone screens still go out.

Pausing and resuming a job

Open the job’s script editor page and use the job status toggle in the header to switch the job between Active and Paused. The same control resumes it.
Manually activating, pausing, or resuming a job — and toggling auto-activation — requires the Manage Lifecycle permission. It is granted to the Admin and Editor roles by default; Recruiters have it only if your organization grants it on the Role Permissions page. See ATS Integration Settings.

What pausing stops

While a job is paused, Tenzo stops:
  • New outreach calls — first-touch dials, voicemail retries, and other routine follow-ups to candidates who have not yet scheduled a time.
  • SMS outreach for the job.
  • New web interviews. Candidates who open an interview link see a message that the job is not currently accepting interviews — unless Allow interviews is enabled, which lets candidates who already hold a non-expired link finish their video interview. See Paused job behavior.
  • Job-board applications for the job.
Candidates who were in outreach and had not yet scheduled a time are rerouted to an Outreach Paused stage, so you can see at a glance who is waiting on the job to resume. Candidates who already booked a phone time stay in Outreach so that screen can still run.

Scheduled phone screens still happen

If a candidate has already picked a phone time, Tenzo honors that commitment even after the job is paused. We do not schedule new interviews or follow up with candidates who have not yet responded — we just complete the phone screens that were already booked. This is for the candidate experience. Once someone has chosen a time, we keep that appointment. Pausing only stops us from encouraging new interviews. This applies whether you paused the job yourself or Tenzo paused it automatically — for example when the requisition closes in SuccessFactors or another ATS.
  • Monday 12pm: A candidate schedules their phone screen for Wednesday at 12pm.
  • Tuesday 12pm: The job is paused in Tenzo — either directly, or because the ATS marked the requisition closed.
  • Wednesday 12pm: Tenzo still calls the candidate and runs the screen as planned.
Video interviews are different. A booked video screen still depends on Allow interviews. If that setting is off, the candidate sees that the job is not currently accepting interviews. See Paused job behavior. Candidates who never scheduled a time stay in Outreach Paused until the job is resumed. No automatic follow-up is sent to explain that the job was paused, unless job-paused emails are enabled for a web-interview job.

What pausing does not stop

Already-scheduled phone screens still happen. See Scheduled phone screens still happen. ATS sync and candidate ingestion keep running. Pausing a job does not disconnect it from your ATS. New applicants continue to arrive and land in the Outreach Paused stage, where they wait until the job is resumed — at which point Tenzo evaluates them like any other paused candidate.
Applicant syncing while a job is paused is controlled by Sync Applicants While Job Paused in ATS Integration Settings. Turn it off if you do not want Tenzo to keep pulling in applicants for paused jobs.

When Tenzo pauses a job automatically

Tenzo can pause a job on its own for four reasons:
  • The requisition is no longer open in your ATS. If the ATS marks the job closed, covered, filled, or cancelled, Tenzo pauses it. See ATS Integration Settings.
  • An integration rule no longer matches. If the job falls out of scope of the rule that activated it, Tenzo pauses it.
  • Enough candidates passed. With Auto-pause job when enough candidates pass configured, the job pauses once N candidates have a completed interview at or above the score threshold. See Job pause and capacity.
  • A new-job activation delay. A newly created job stays paused for the configured Delay Interview Activation window before auto-activation turns it on.
Pausing a job manually turns auto-activation off. Tenzo will not auto-resume a job you paused by hand — not even when the requisition reopens in your ATS. To bring it back, resume the job manually or turn auto-activation back on.

What happens when you resume

On resume, Tenzo re-evaluates each candidate on the job before contacting anyone:
  1. Interview result reuse. Tenzo first checks whether the candidate already has an interview result that can be reused for this job.
  2. Cooldown re-evaluation. Candidates still inside a cooldown window are re-checked against it.
Candidates then move to Outreach — where Tenzo resumes calling and texting them — or to Cooling Down if they are still within their cooldown window. For web interviews, candidates who already received an interview link keep that link and resume with the normal reminder cadence. Reopening the job does not send them a new first-invite link or consume another invite attempt. Candidates who had not yet received a link remain eligible for their first invitation after the job resumes.

Candidate notifications

Tenzo can email candidates when a job is paused or resumed. These emails apply only to jobs that use web interviews, and are sent only to candidates who have given email consent. The Send job paused emails toggle in Paused job behavior controls the paused notification only. Resume emails are sent whenever a web-interview job is resumed, regardless of that toggle — so a candidate may receive a “job resumed” email for a pause they were never notified about.
