# Sourcing vs Resume Requirements

> Give sourcing and resume review their own requirement instructions in a script generation template

## Two requirement sets, one job

Every job carries **two independent sets of requirements**:

Each set is generated separately from the job description, and each has its own importance value per requirement. Both are extracted the same way, so any difference between them comes from the instructions you write in a script generation template. The same idea can be **Required** on one side and **Preferred** on the other — for example, "active certification for X" may be something you only *prefer* when casting a wide sourcing net, but *require* before an applicant clears resume screening.

  Editing resume review requirements affects **resume review only**. Your sourcing requirements are left untouched, so refining what a resume is scored against does not change what the sourcing agent searches on.

## Directing how each set is written

Both sets are configured in the **Resume Requirements** step of a job editor — resume review requirements on every job, sourcing requirements on templates. On a [hybrid template](/templates/hybrid-templates) you choose how each one gets written:

* **AI Generated** — write generation instructions, and each job's requirement list is written from its job description following that guidance.
* **Use Exactly** — write the requirement list yourself, and every linked job gets that exact set.

## Instructions in script generation templates

[Script generation templates](/templates/script-generation) let you steer both sets. The template editor has a section for **Resume Review Requirements** instructions and a separate section for **Sourcing Requirements** instructions. Guidance you write in each section applies only to that requirement set, and — like every other section — is merged with the template's Overall Instructions.

Because the two sections are separate, each can carry guidance that would contradict the other:

* **Sourcing Requirements**: "Always include a geographic requirement. Prefer certifications and licenses over soft skills. Keep the list to five or fewer so the search stays broad."
* **Resume Review Requirements**: "Require the state license explicitly. Include minimum years of experience. Do not include anything a resume would not state."

## Things to keep in mind

* **Requirements you edit by hand stay edited.** Neither set is regenerated behind you; changing one never rewrites the other.
* **Rescoring uses resume review requirements.** **Rescore Candidate Resumes** in the job's **More** menu re-evaluates resumes against the resume review set. Re-running a search re-evaluates candidates against the sourcing set.
* **Importance means the same thing on both sides.** A **Required** requirement is a hard gate for its own set — see [Requirement Matches](/resume-review/requirement-matches) for how importance is applied during resume review.
