# Display Language

> Choose the language of the Tenzo app for yourself, and set a default for your organization

## Overview

The display language is the language of the Tenzo app: menus, buttons, settings and messages. Each user can choose their own, and admins can set a default for the whole organization.

The available languages are:

* English
* Français
* Español
* Deutsch
* Nederlands
* Nederlands (België)

The display language does not change the language of interviews or of messages sent to candidates. Interview language is set on each job (see [Language](/settings/available-settings#language)).

***

## Choose your language

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Preferences">
    Go to **User Settings** from the user menu and select the **Preferences** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a language">
    Under **Display language**, open **Language** and choose a language. To follow your organization's default instead, choose the first option, **Organization default**, which names the default language, for example **Organization default (English)**. It keeps following the default when an admin changes it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**. The page reloads in the new language.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Your choice applies only to your account.

<Note>
  Some pages may still appear in English while translations are completed.
</Note>

## Set the organization default

Admins can choose the language for everyone in the organization who has not picked their own.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Language tab">
    Go to **Admin → Organization & Users → Language**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a default">
    Under **Default display language**, open **Default language** and choose a language. Choose **No default (English)** to clear the default, so users who have not picked a language see English.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If you follow the organization default yourself, the app switches to the new language right away. Other users who follow it see the new language the next time they load Tenzo. Users who chose their own language keep it.

***

## Which language applies

Tenzo shows the first of these that is set:

1. The language you chose in **Preferences**
2. Your organization's default language
3. English

Your browser's language setting does not change it.

***

## What stays as written

Content your team wrote, such as job descriptions, screening questions and saved templates, keeps its original text in every display language.

If your language cannot load, Tenzo shows the app in English with a notice and a **Retry** button. Your language choice is unchanged, and the notice clears once your language loads.
