# Candidate Tags

> Label candidates with your own vocabulary of tags, shared across your whole organization

## Overview

**Candidate tags** are a set of labels your organization defines and your recruiters apply to candidates. The tag list is yours to choose — many teams use tiers such as `Tier A`, `Tier B`, and `Tier C`, but a tag can be anything your team wants to track about a person.

Tags are shared organization-wide. Everyone on your team sees the same tag list and the same tags on a candidate.

<Warning>
  **Tags belong to the candidate, not to a job.** A tag you apply while working one job is visible on every other job that person appears on, and everywhere else they show up in Tenzo. Tagging someone `Tier A` is a statement about the person, not about their fit for a single role.
</Warning>

<Note>
  These are Tenzo's own candidate tags. They are separate from any tags that come from your ATS and are not written back to it.

## Where to configure

Navigate to **Admin > Organization & Users > Candidate Tags**. Only organization admins can reach this tab.

***

## Creating and editing tags

1. Go to **Admin > Organization & Users > Candidate Tags**.
2. Select **add tag**, enter a name, and pick a color so the tag is easy to spot in a list.
3. Save. The tag is immediately available to everyone in your organization.

To change a tag, edit its name or color from the same table. Renaming a tag updates it everywhere it is already applied — candidates keep the tag, it just displays under the new name.

Recruiters cannot create tags while tagging. Keeping the vocabulary admin-defined is what stops the list drifting into near-duplicates.

## Applying tags to candidates

Tagging happens on the candidate list for a job, and in the candidate detail drawer.

**One candidate at a time**

1. Open a job and find the candidate in the candidate table.
2. Select the **tags** cell on their row.
3. Choose one or more tags from the picker. Choosing an applied tag again removes it.

**Several candidates at once**

1. Select the checkboxes for the candidates you want to tag.
2. In the bulk actions bar, open the tag action.
3. Apply or remove a tag across the whole selection.

**From the candidate detail drawer**

1. Open a candidate to bring up their detail drawer.
2. Find their tags in the header, next to the thumbs-up and comment controls. Select **Tag** to open the picker.
3. Choose one or more tags from the same picker used on the candidate table. Choosing an applied tag again removes it.

The header stays put as you move between tabs, so you can tag someone while reading their resume, transcript, or message history. It is there for candidates who have not been interviewed yet, too.

You need permission to edit candidates in order to tag them. Without it, tags still appear but are read-only.

***

## Viewing tags

A candidate's tags appear as colored chips on their row in the job's candidate table and in the candidate detail drawer. The Interviews list can show them too — turn on the **Tags** column from that page's column picker.

In the detail drawer, tags sit in the header alongside the feedback controls and can be added and removed there without leaving the page — no need to go back to the candidate list. Past the fourth tag the header collapses the rest into a **+N** you can hover to read.

Because tags are attached to the candidate, opening that same person from a different job shows exactly the same tags.

***

## Filtering by tag

Add a **Tags** filter to narrow a list down to the people carrying a given tag. It is available in two places:

* A job's **Candidates** tab, to work through one role's tiers.
* The organization-wide **Interviews** list, to see everyone with a tag across every job.

Select one or more tags. Selecting several matches candidates who have **any** of them, not all — picking `Tier A` and `Tier B` returns both groups together.

<Note>
  The selected tags are carried in the page URL, so the filtered view survives a reload and can be shared with a teammate by copying the link.
</Note>

***

## Exporting a tag-filtered list

The tag filter feeds straight into the existing CSV export:

1. Filter the list by the tags you want.
2. Select candidates with the header checkbox (the whole filtered job, or the
   loaded page on Interviews).
3. Choose **Export**.
4. In the export dialog, type how many matching rows to include (up to
   100,000) or choose all matching, then pick which columns to keep. Leave **Tags**
   checked if you want the tag names in the file.

The CSV covers candidates that match the current search and filters, in the
same order as the table, and includes a **Tags** column holding each
candidate's tag names, comma-joined (when that column is selected).

***

## Deleting a tag

A tag can only be deleted once no candidate carries it. If you try to delete a tag that is still applied, Tenzo blocks the deletion and tells you how many candidates still have it.

To remove such a tag, clear it from those candidates first — bulk-remove is the fastest way — and then delete it.
